IIM Bodh Gaya Dominates at Aarohan 2024, Securing Multiple Victories

Students Excel in Sports and Leadership at Aarohan 2024 Hosted by IIM Bodh Gaya

IIM Bodh Gaya recently hosted "Aarohan," a three-day inter-IIM sports event from December 13 to 15, 2024, bringing together IIMs from eastern India to celebrate talent and camaraderie. A total of 111 participants joined, with IIM Sambalpur contributing 56 athletes and IIM Ranchi 55. The event began with the arrival of teams from both institutes, followed by an inauguration ceremony led by Major General Joy Biswas, an alumnus with over 31 years of military service and currently serving at OTA Gaya. In his address, he emphasized the importance of discipline and sportsmanship, setting the tone for the event. The ceremony concluded with oath-taking to ensure fair play and the handover of event flags.

Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, Director of IIM Bodh Gaya, took part in a friendly cricket match between faculty and students, in addition to playing badminton and table tennis, making everyone embody the event's spirit. On the first day, IIM Bodh Gaya won both the cricket and badminton matches against IIM Sambalpur. The next day, participants engaged in intense matches across various sports, including football, chess, table tennis, volleyball, throwball, and badminton. IIM Bodh Gaya emerged victorious in football, chess, table tennis, volleyball, and men’s badminton, while IIM Sambalpur won the women’s throwball match. The day ended with a bonfire and an open mic session.

On the final day, December 15, IIM Bodh Gaya triumphed in the cricket and men’s throwball matches against IIM Sambalpur. Additionally, IIM Bodh Gaya secured first place in the 100m sprint, with IIM Ranchi finishing in second. The participants expressed that this event was a valuable opportunity for connecting and learning from other IIMs fellows and their competitive spirit and teamwork were truly motivating. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where athletes were recognized for their performances in cricket, football, volleyball, chess, athletics, badminton, table tennis, and throwball. Dr. Amresh Kumar, Chairperson of the Sports Committee, played a key role in organizing the event and offered athletes from IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Sambalpur, and IIM Ranchi a platform to showcase their talent.

The sports event was a huge success as it provided an opportunity for students to build lifelong relationships, foster teamwork and develop leadership skills. By participating in competitive sports alongside peers from other IIMs, students gained valuable experiences that go beyond academics, encouraging physical fitness, discipline, and a strong sense of community.
