Exemplifying the Responsible Governance: Andhra Government Intervenes for Specially Abled IIT Candidates
Excelling in JEE but Struggling for IIT admission. Why?
Jul 11, 2024 |
In a disheartening turn of events, 25 specially-abled students found themselves unable to secure admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) despite clearing the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) due to a minor technical hurdle. However, in a commendable act of support and intervention, the Andhra Pradesh government has stepped in to ensure these bright students get the deserved opportunities.
One of the students, Pruthvi Satya Dev with limited mobility was accepted to IIT Madras but his admission was delayed because of an issue with his intermediate grades, Pruthvi Satyadev, texted state HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on WhatsApp to bring attention to the issue and asked for his action on this matter.
Students with special needs are excused from taking any one of the two languages; it means that they can write only four of the five subjects on their intermediate exams. IITs only accept marked memos with five subjects, which means that even though they received A grades, their admissions were frozen, which was quite upsetting to those 25 students who attempted the highly competitive exam honestly and marked their positions regardless of their physical disabilities.
The State Education Minister Lokesh in response to Pruthvi’s SOS gave the official order to alter the marksheet and add a fifth subject, which would be an average of the four subjects that students had already written. To expedite the procedure, the state administration also got in touch with the IIT council. Andhra Pradesh Government's immediate action for the future of these meritorious students is highly commendable, it signifies “Government for the People” in the true sense.
The timely action taken by the state government has not only safeguarded their future but has also paved the way for numerous other students who might have encountered comparable circumstances, stated Pruthvi. Students who had been admitted to NITs and other prestigious institutions similarly followed this strategy.
When we talk about responsive Governance, we can proudly take the example of Andhra Pradesh as by their efforts 40 disabled children can get into IITs and NITs as stated by Minister Nara Lokesh. As an education minister, he served the public and ensured that everyone had access to education. The students met Minister Nara Lokesh with the help of their families before departing to fulfill their IIT dreams.
The tenacity and willpower of these youngsters with special needs paved the way for thousands of students to fulfill their dreams of higher education at IIT. Commendable steps taken by the Andhra Pradesh Government make their aspirations now close to reality.
Editor’s Note:
“Responsible citizens make a responsible Government” - The statement is commendably proven by the 25 students who raised their concern for their future and the Andhra Pradesh Government who took suitable actions promptly. The roads were full of obstacles for these students as clearing the JEE exam despite physical challenges needed a great deal of hard work, perseverance, and determination. These students put out remarkable efforts, but they frequently encountered administrative barriers, later on, which were removed by the Education Ministry.
This initiative emphasizes how important it is for the government to assist in closing the achievement and opportunity gaps and giving every worthy kid the platform to succeed. Skoobuzz is grateful to the Education Ministry of Andhra Pradesh for taking prompt action and fulfilling the dreams of these deserving special students.
