BDU's Notable Faculty Contributions Highlighted in Prestigious Rankings of Stanford University
Celebrating Excellence: BDU Faculty Featured in 2024 Stanford Rankings
Sep 26, 2024 |
Bharathidasan University (BDU) in Tiruchi has gained international recognition, with five of its scientists being included in Stanford University's 2024 rankings of the top 2% of scientists worldwide. The list, published by Elsevier, includes M. Lakshmanan and T.C. Sabari Girisun from the field of Physics, as well as R. Ramesh and M. Palaniandavar from Chemistry, and M. Sathiyabama from Botany. Additionally, three faculty members from affiliated colleges were also featured K. Ravichandran and M. Ayyanar, both from A.V.V.M. Sri Pushpam College in Poondi, and M. Jothibas from T.B.M.L. College of Arts and Science in Poraiyar.
The ranking serves as a global recognition of scientists, evaluated based on several metrics, including citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in various authorship positions, and a composite indicator known as the c-score.
The August 2024 data update features over 217,000 researchers across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. India has 2,939 scientists included in this ranking. Notably, around 13% of these researchers are featured on the career-long impact list. In the 2023 edition, which accounted for all citations from 1788 to the present, there were 5,351 scientists included, representing approximately 24% of the total.
The inclusion of faculty from BDU is part of the seventh version of the updated science-wide author database. Mr. Lakshmanan is recognized as a leading international expert in nonlinear dynamics, having made significant contributions to a range of topics, including integrable systems, solitons, bifurcations, chaos, synchronization, collective dynamical states, quantum chaos, as well as magnetic and optical solitons and their mathematical aspects.
Professor Ramesh is recognized for his contributions to organometallic chemistry and metal-mediated organic synthesis. His research focused on exploring transition organometallic complexes as efficient catalysts for greener and more sustainable synthesis of biologically valuable complex organic molecules, including heterocycles, using readily available alcohols.
Mr. Palaniandavar is an international expert in bioinorganic chemistry. His research interests include the synthesis of copper, nickel, and iron-based small molecules as functional models for dioxygen-activating metalloenzymes. He is actively involved in studying metal-DNA interactions, designing new copper-based anticancer drugs, and examining their structure-activity relationships.
Ms. Sathiyabama specializes in molecular plant pathology and focuses on managing plant diseases using biopolymers and biopolymer-based nanoparticles. Mr. Sabari Girisun’s research focuses on the complex nanoscale interactions between high-intensity light and matter. His work aims to develop advanced materials for various applications, including laser safety devices, upconverter hybrid solar cells, and biomedical applications such as cancer therapies and neuronal regeneration. Professors Lakshmanan, Ramesh, and Palaniandavar are included in the career-long impact list, highlighting their significant contributions to their fields.
Mr. Lakshmanan received the Vigyan Shri award in Physics, while Mr. Palaniandavar has been honored with Fellowships from the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and the Tamil Nadu Scientist Award. Mr. Ramesh is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK and the Academy of Sciences in Chennai, also a Tamil Nadu Scientist award. Ms. Sathiyabama is a Fellow of both the Academy of Sciences in Chennai and the National Academy of Biological Sciences.
BDU Vice-Chancellor M. Selvam congratulated the scientists and faculty for their outstanding research contributions.
