Dynamic Debates and Cultural Highlights Define Bennett University's BUMUN 3.0

Bennett University Provided A Platform for Young Minds to Shape Future Diplomacy

Bennett University is a private interdisciplinary research university, established in 2016 by the Times of India group in Uttar Pradesh, India. To foster critical thinking, public speaking, and diplomacy among students, on September 7-8, 2024, the University's campus played host to the third edition of BUMUN 3.0, the Annual Model United Nations. Over 300 people from more than 70 universities spread across seven states attended the event, which was organized by Cerebrum, the university's Official Literary and Debating Society.

Delegates simulated the operation of the United Nations, debated current global concerns, and came up with creative solutions. The event, with the theme "Echoes of the Past, Visions for the Future," aimed to develop young minds' leadership potential while encouraging cooperation, compromise, and consensus-building.

It featured six committees, each with distinct agendas addressing critical global issues:

  1. UN General Assembly - Disarmament and International Security Committee (UNGA-DISEC): Focused on preventing the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), with special emphasis on the Iran Nuclear Deal.
  2. UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC): Addressed the ethical use of digital technologies and AI, particularly scrutinizing data privacy impacts from 2018 to 2023.
  3. UN Security Council (UNSC): Concentrated on protecting civilians in conflict zones, emphasizing humanitarian access and atrocity prevention.
  4. UN Environment Programme (UNEP): Discussed long-term sustainability for the automobile industry and responsible lithium extraction practices.
  5. All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM): Explored the efficacy and future direction of Reservation Policies in India for socio-economic equity and inclusive growth.
  6. International Press Committee (IPC): Focused on journalism and photography, capturing the conference’s dynamic essence.

These agendas were thoughtfully selected to address rising international challenges, getting students involved in a rich and diverse range of discussions. An Executive Board of Individuals with extensive backgrounds in MUN and international affairs guided each committee, their invaluable advice raised the quality of debates, and provided students with priceless insights and constructive feedback, making sure that the discussion should be rigorous and impactful.

The event was a huge success, receiving praise for its lively cultural components, in-depth discussions, and flawless organization. It set a high standard for future conferences and inspired everyone who attended by fusing intellectual engagement with community and cultural celebration. The event not only developed global awareness and diplomacy among young brains but also left an ineradicable mark, inspiring all who attended. It embodied the essence of Bennett University.
