CBSE Expands Teacher Training Scope with Innovative CPD Guidelines

STEM Education Takes Centre Stage in CBSE’s 2025 Training Focus

Recognising the crucial role educators play in shaping future generations, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a transformative mandate to elevate teaching standards across its affiliated schools. As part of this initiative, the Board has required all educators to complete 50 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) annually.

This directive, issued through two circulars on April 1, 2025, reflects CBSE's steadfast commitment to equipping teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to adapt to the evolving demands of modern education. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST), the framework sets the foundation for fostering excellence, adaptability, and professional growth in the teaching community.

The revised training framework focuses on three core areas: Core Values and Ethics (12 hours), Knowledge and Practice (24 hours), and Professional Growth and Development (14 hours). Importantly, teachers are expected to fulfil at least half of their training requirements through CBSE or government-led programs, while the remainder can be completed via peer learning, in-house activities, or local collaborative initiatives, ensuring a flexible yet structured approach to professional development.

Furthermore, CBSE has expanded the scope of CPD to include activities such as contributing to board exam duties, conducting research, attending CBSE-organised conferences, and creating digital content. For the academic year 2025, the focus has been placed on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, encouraging schools to organise District Level Deliberations (DLDs) aimed at fostering innovative ideas and discussions on STEM pedagogy. Emphasis has been placed on practical, inquiry-driven, and interdisciplinary teaching methods.

Additionally, CBSE has focused on the critical role of school leaders in fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth among educators. The Board has reinforced that strict adherence to the revised training guidelines is mandatory for all affiliated schools. This initiative reflects that CBSE is dedicated to advancing educational excellence by empowering educators with the tools needed to deliver quality education.
