Hindi Diwas Marks New Era: MBBS to be Taught in Hindi in Chhattisgarh.

NEP 2020 Vision: Chhattisgarh Making Education System More Approachable, Providing MBBS in Hindi

43.63% of the population in India, almost 52.83 crore people speak Hindi according to the 2011 census. Every year we celebrate Hindi Diwas on 14 September and this decision was made by the Constituent Assembly in 1949 to designate Hindi, as the official language of the Union of India. Hindi-speaking people in India vary from state to state, for example, in Kerala, only 0.6% of people speak Hindi while in North India Hindi is more prevalent.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai took a major initiative to make Medical education more approachable for Hindi Medium students and recently announced that the MBBS course in the state would now be available in Hindi starting from the academic session 2024-25. This is great news for 76% of rural students in Chhattisgarh, as these students use Hindi as their medium of instruction.

The announcement was made on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, which reflects the state government's commitment to implement Prime Minister Narender Modi’s vision of providing MBBS education in Hindi. In his speech, CM pointed out that the health department has been instructed to prepare and arrange the necessary books and study resources available from the first year of the 2024-25 session. This decision is a part of the efforts to change the education policy at every level to uproot the old Macaulay imperialist education policy. He also claimed that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 had been fully implemented in Chhattisgarh.

Sai asserted that this groundbreaking decision would benefit specifically students from rural areas of the state, who had their schooling in Hindi medium and struggle with medical courses due to the use of English. Students pursuing their Medical education in the same medium of their schooling will definitely reinforce their foundational knowledge, and easily understand the subject and ultimately this will contribute to developing them as proficient doctors.

Editor's Note:

The National Education Policy tried its best to modernize the education system of India and in this ongoing effort, the Chhattisgarh government took a major initiative to provide MBBS courses in Hindi medium starting from this current academic session. This step is the government's goal to make education more accessible and inclusive for all Hindi medium students. Adapting the Hindi curriculum and books will foster students' foundational school knowledge and make it more convenient for them to grasp the concepts, which ultimately lead them towards fulfilling their dreams of becoming proficient doctors.

Skoobuzz commends the Chhattisgarh Government's initiative, which paves the way for a more inclusive educational environment.
