Scholarship For Tech Talent: University of Sheffield Announces £2,000 Computer Science Scholarship

New £2,000 Scholarship for Aspiring Computer Scientists at the University of Sheffield

To nurture and promote the next generation of computer scientists the University of Sheffield has instituted a £2,000 scholarship for excellent students enrolled in its Computer Science department as undergraduates. In addition to demonstrating the university's dedication to academic excellence, this innovative new project aims to increase access to high-quality education for talented individuals from several specialisations. The Department of Computer Science’s full-time undergraduate program will offer scholarships to the accepted candidates in September 2024 based on their academic achievements. There is no need to apply for the scholarship as it will be given to all qualified students promptly as they start their studies in the department. The scholarship will be given in the form of a cash bursary to the winners.

Eligibility for the scholarship:

Students need to score equivalent or higher than A*A*A, with a required A* in math, and select the University of Sheffield as their first choice during the UCAS 2024 application process. Candidates need to apply to computer science departments full-time undergraduate programs and need to classify themselves as overseas students (due to tuition fees). They will further have to enroll in all preconditioned subjects of their course.

Students will not be compensated for the study abroad industry period, whether required or elective. Additionally, they are ineligible to be engaged in university pathway programs. But if a student is getting a scholarship from somewhere other than the University of Sheffield, the total sum should make sure the applicant isn't paying for tuition in full.

Conditions for scholarship amount:

  • Students will receive a scholarship of £2,000 if they receive an overall grade of A*A*A* in class 12, including an A* in mathematics.
  • A scholarship worth £1000 will be given to individuals who receive a class 12 score of A*A*A or higher, including an A* in mathematics.

To clarify the precise equivalent marks of A*A*A* and A*A* for grade equivalents in the Indian education system, students are asked to email the undergraduate admission staff of the University of Sheffield's computer science departments at ug-compsci@sheffield.ac.uk.

On the official website, it states that the A*AA is equivalent to 90% for Indian candidates appearing for the CBSE, CISCE, and Maharashtra State Board. Similarly, for West Bengal Board students, the A*AA is equivalent to 90%, and all other state boards with 91 per cent or higher will be regarded as having the same percentage as A*AA. Following admission, students who receive at least 70% will be given an automatic £1,000 scholarship stipend each academic year after the start of their academic year in October 2024. The University of Sheffield is well known for its innovative computer science teaching and research and by supporting the upcoming generation of tech leaders, the university hopes to uphold its reputation for excellence. Students have the liberty to use the £2,000 scholarship for living expenses, tuition, or any other expenditures related to attending college.
