Delhi and IP Universities Expand Global Collaborations, Opening New Opportunities for Students

Enhancing Student Mobility: Delhi and IP University Launch Collaborative Global Education Programs

Universities around the world are increasingly showing interest in partnering with city universities on joint programmes and opening up new opportunities for students globally. For instance, Delhi University (DU) has collaborated with universities in Australia and Japan. However, IP University has proactively formed international collaborations and maintains active agreements with 17 universities worldwide. These agreements cover academic exchanges, research partnerships, and student and faculty mobility opportunities.

Mahesh Verma, the Vice-Chancellor of IP University, underlined the university’s global perspective. He explained that the term vishwavidyalaya reflects the idea of a university for the world, providing opportunities for anyone to study anywhere in the world. One of the university’s new initiatives includes a four-semester Master of Science in Digital Production for Sustainable Manufacturing, set to be launched in collaboration with AGH University of Krakow, Poland, in March 2025. Discussions are underway with Australian Catholic University to offer a dual-degree programme for a Bachelor's in Human Rights, and with Szechenyi Istvan University in Hungary to offer a Master of Science in Architecture and Design.

In a similar context, three students from Delhi University had the opportunity to gain international exposure this year through a collaboration with the Niigata University Summer Programme in Japan. This programme brought together students from various countries and offered virtual sessions to foster cultural understanding and global cooperation. The programme focused on the Japanese concept of Enryo, which emphasises mindfulness of others' feelings and needs. Additionally, DU sent two students to HSE University in St. Petersburg, Russia, for a week-long cultural immersion.

Moreover, the university is planning further collaborations that will allow students to complete one semester at universities abroad, thereby facilitating greater global exposure. DU has long recognised its role in the broader international academic community. In line with this vision, the university has actively pursued partnerships with institutions worldwide for joint programmes, research initiatives, and student exchanges.

Furthermore, the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have recently partnered to offer a joint PhD programme through the UQ-IIT Delhi Research Academy (UQIDAR) at IIT Delhi. This programme allows students to study at both institutions and earn a jointly awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree upon completion. Students spend three years in India and one year in Australia, or vice versa, depending on their home institution. Overall, the trend of universities forming international partnerships is a positive development that promises to enhance the quality of education and prepare students to succeed in a globalised workforce.

Editor's Note:

The increasing global collaboration is crucial in today’s evolving educational landscape. Initiatives by institutions such as Delhi University and IP University provide students with exceptional academic and cultural exchange opportunities. Programmes like the Niigata University Summer Programme and the UQ-IIT Delhi joint PhD initiative enrich student experiences and equip them for success in an increasingly globalised world. The commitment of universities to provide quality education, global exposure and enhance employability is commendable.

Skoobuzz applauds these efforts and looks forward to witnessing the continued impact of such global collaborations on student’s academic and personal development of students worldwide.
