DoE Unveils Guidelines for Non-Plan Admissions: A Step Towards Inclusive Education

Delhi Schools Begin 2025-26 Admission Process with Streamlined Online System

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has announced the commencement of non-plan admissions for classes 6 to 9 in Delhi government schools for the academic session 2025-26, starting from April 1. With the introduction of an online registration system, this initiative simplifies and streamlines the admission process, making it more accessible and efficient for students and parents alike. However, students categorized under the non-standard organisation (NSO) are guided to approach their existing government or aided schools for transfers or readmissions, ensuring compliance with specific regulations.

The DoE has outlined a well-structured admission process that will take place in three cycles: April 1-8, May 1-24, and July 1-25. While admissions for students promoted from classes 5 and 6 will be processed through the online system, out-of-school children aged 10-13 will need to register physically at the nearest school. To ensure appropriate placement, these children will undergo an assessment of their foundational literacy and numeracy skills before being assigned a class. In a significant move toward inclusivity, the government has also announced age relaxations for students with disabilities. These relaxations reduce the lower age limit by six months and extend the upper age limit by four years, with school heads being entrusted to implement and manage these provisions effectively.

To facilitate a smooth application process, parents or guardians can revise and resubmit applications before the registration deadline in case of errors, supported by an OTP-based verification system. Once registered, the applicant's details will be accessible to the cluster in charge of the nearest school for processing. School allotments will be carried out based on the availability of seats and infrastructure, utilizing an online system. In cases where no school is available within a cluster, the district education officer will ensure the student is assigned to a nearby school. For those unable to register online, manual applications for Class 9 admissions will be accepted until August 5. The final admission list will be published on August 11, and the last date for completing the admission process is set for August 31.

The DoE has also established specific age criteria to guide admissions: 10-11 years for Class 6, 11-13 years for Class 7, 12-14 years for Class 8, and 13-15 years for Class 9 as of March 31. In exceptional circumstances, such as the death of a parent, prolonged illness, or trauma, additional age relaxations may be granted. Parents or guardians seeking exemptions are required to submit the necessary documents to the nearest school, which will forward these requests to district authorities for approval. The DoE’s structured approach to non-plan admissions demonstrates its commitment to fostering an inclusive and transparent system, ensuring that every student has access to quality education while addressing individual needs and challenges.
