Karnataka Government Renames University in Gadag to Reflect Gandhian Ideals

On January 21, Minister H K Patil announced in Belagavi that the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University in Gadag would be renamed Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University. He explained that the decision, made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge, aimed to align the university with Mahatma Gandhi's vision for rural development in Karnataka and support research on related policies.

Mr Patil, who is the chairman of the committee organizing the centenary celebrations of the 1924 Belagavi session of the Congress, welcomed the guests, leaders, freedom fighters, and others present at the event. The Minister mentioned that the statue of Gandhiji would inspire the youth of the country to engage in social service. He added that it would also motivate legislators to create laws and policies that would contribute to all-round peace and prosperity.

Among those present at the event were the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar, Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh. The unveiling of the Mahatma Gandhi statue marked a significant moment in Karnataka's commitment to rural development and the values upheld by the nation's father.

Editor's Note:

This move to rename the university in honour of Mahatma Gandhi reflects Karnataka's ongoing focus on rural development, aligning education and research with Gandhian principles. The presence of distinguished leaders at the event underscores the state's commitment to Mahatma Gandhi's vision of an inclusive, prosperous rural future. With the university's new name reflecting this dedication, the event honoured Gandhi's legacy and underscored the importance of nurturing the next generation of leaders and policy-makers.

Skoobuzz hopes that this renaming will include Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals in modern-day education, particularly in rural development.
