Generous India: A Step Towards Empowering Srilankan Students in Digital Education

Fostering Unity Through Education: India’s Step Towards Global Educational Unity

India has generously provided digital equipment worth Rs 300 million to 200 schools located in Sri Lanka’s southern province, aimed at bolstering educational infrastructure and fostering digital literacy. This historic project not only highlights the close relationship that exists between the two countries but also establishes a progressive standard for regional collaboration in the promotion of digital literacy and high standards in education.

 

India on 6 July’24 donated digital equipment, including 2,000 tabs, worth Rs 300 million for use by 200 schools in the southern state of Sri Lanka, referring to it as "a project for posterity."This Project bridges the digital divide and provides the necessary resources to students to thrive in a technology-driven world. President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha attended a ceremony in the southern district of Galle that marked a significant step towards the modernization of education through the supply in the Southern Province.

 

"Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, the Minister of Health and Industry, requested that the Southern Provincial Council get Rs 300 million from the Government of India for this project. According to a release from the President's Media Division (PMD), of the 200 chosen schools, 150 are in the Galle district and the remaining 50 are in the Hambantota and Matara districts. Furthermore, the statement stated that 2,000 Tabs were delivered, with 10 Tabs going to each of the 200 schools. "We sincerely appreciate India, our neighbor, helping to advance contemporary technologies. Wickremesinghe said, "We are grateful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown interest in developing an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Sri Lanka." Moreover, discussions to strengthen collaboration in the energy domain with India are making good progress," he stated.

 

In their separate statements, Pathirana and Dr. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Education, expressed gratitude to India for its support."Today, 200 schools in the Southern Province have been equipped with comfortable classrooms and 2,000 Tabs," Premajayantha added. With 1,250 schools now connected, the schools will eventually be digitized. In return, Jha said, "We continuously extend support to Sri Lanka as India's neighbor." Sri Lanka is an important part of our foreign strategy. India is unwavering in its resolve to help Sri Lanka with technical know-how and necessary infrastructure. The Indian High Commission shared images from the occasion on its X page and the Project of Posterity will surely integrate technology into the curriculum and enhance the overall quality of education.
