IIT Jodhpur Breaks Language Barriers by Providing BTech Programs in Hindi and English

Empowering Knowledge: IIT Jodhpur Ready To Teach Higher Degree Courses in Hindi and English

Gone are the days when students thought that English was an indispensable requirement for pursuing higher education. India is now at the forefront of revolutionizing its education system, championing the cause of linguistic inclusivity in higher learning. Esteemed institutions are leading this transformative journey by adopting new changes in their education system. Recently, Chhattisgarh made a bold move by integrating 18 local languages into primary education and now IIT Jodhpur is stepping boldly into this progressive path. Soon the dream of “Equal opportunity in Education” without any language barrier is poised to become a radiant reality.

According to the sources, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur has announced that it will offer its BTech programs in both Hindi and English for aspiring engineers. This decision marks a significant step towards making high-quality technical education more accessible to a broader section of the Indian population. Admission to these programs will continue to be through the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) 2024.

As the new academic session will commence this year, To preserve uniformity and rigor in teaching, IIT-Jodhpur will have two portions before the start of the session, based on the language preference. Both sections will be taught by the same lecturer, along with the freedom for students to move between sections. IIT Jodhpur will maintain the same level of rigor in the teaching-learning processes because all students will be subject to the same evaluations. The goal of introducing Hindi as a language of instruction is to help many gifted kids from non-English speaking backgrounds overcome this language barrier.

According to National Education Policy NEP 2020, the project is very significant as it emphasizes learning in your language, stated  Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, the director of IIT Jodhpur."Teaching first-year courses in both Hindi and English will improve students' understanding and engagement with the subject matter, enabling a smooth transition to IIT Jodhpur's academic environment," according to Agarwal. He emphasized that many students from non-English speaking backgrounds struggle with language barriers and suggested this bilingual method to guarantee comparable rigor in the teaching-learning process for both language portions.

To accomplish this project IIT Jodhpur is preparing its staff to give lectures in both languages, as well as to assist students, the institute is creating in-depth bilingual textbooks and internet tools. Feedback from both students and professors will be solicited regularly to enhance the quality of instruction in both formats. In conclusion, IIT Jodhpur is leading the way in higher education toward a more inclusive and inventive future by opening up access to high-quality technical education to a wider range of students.

Editor’s Note:

Removing language barriers will not only make the start of such an intense course a smooth sail for students coming from non-english backgrounds but also allow students to excel in their careers. IIT Jodhpur’s decision to offer B Tech courses in both Hindi and English is praiseworthy as it guarantees that all worthy students, regardless of their linguistic background, can receive high-quality education.
