Financial Support and Collaboration Opportunities for PhD Students at IITK

FARE Fellowship Supports Timely Completion of PhD Studies

On October 16, the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) launched the Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE) to recognize and support exceptional PhD students and further encourage the timely completion of doctoral studies and also promote high-quality research output.

The application process is now open to full-time PhD students at IIT Kanpur who are supposed to submit their thesis within five years of enrollment. Students who submit within five years and six months are also eligible, but the fellowship duration will be adjusted accordingly.

The students need to have at least one accepted or published research paper as the first author in a reputable journal or they must have conference proceedings that directly relate to their PhD research, to be eligible for this fellowship. This fellowship is available to students from the year 2018 batch onward and it will provide financial help for up to 12 months. It offers a monthly stipend equivalent to that of postdoctoral fellows at the institute, along with additional research grants. They will also get mentorship from the current thesis supervisor but they are free to collaborate with other faculty members to seek guidance during their fellowship period.

Editor's Note:

At IIT Kanpur, about 2,100 students are enrolled in PhD programs. However, the PhD completion rate within five years is quite low. The launch of the Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE) at IIT Kanpur marks a significant step in supporting PhD students in their academic journeys. This initiative not only provides financial help to students for the timely completion of their PhD degrees but also fosters high-quality research output.

Skoobuzz encourages eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity and further enhance their research contributions.
