Laurels for India: Six Students Secure Gold at the International Junior Science Olympiad

India Emerges as Best-Performing Nation at the 21st Junior Science Olympiad

The 21st International Junior Science Olympiad was held in Bucharest, Romania, from December 2 to 11, 2024. Indian students competed against over 300 participants from 52 countries and proudly brought home six gold medals. The Indian team was recognized as the best-performing nation at this grand event. The IJSO challenges participants in academic subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology through rigorous theoretical and experimental tasks. Of all the participants, the top 10% received gold medals, 20% earned silver, and 30% were awarded bronze.

The event was attended by Professor Anil Kumar, Dean of IISc, who served as the chief guest. Other notable dignitaries included Professor Ahluwalia, President of IAPT, Professor Dwarakanath, Chairman of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, and Professor Lakshminarasu, Vice Chairperson. India’s team, which consisted of six talented students selected by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), achieved the remarkable feat of securing gold medals. A felicitation ceremony was organized on December 13, 2024, at Vidyavardhaka Sangha in Rajajinagar to honour the students and their mentors.

The gold medal winners at the Junior Science Olympiad were Swetank Aggarwal, Bhavya Gunval, Jinansh Shah, Manas Goel, Harshit Singla, and Pranit Mathur. The Indian government extended its support to the team, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing young scientific talent. The remarkable achievements of these students underscore India’s growing strength in science and education on the global stage, further solidifying the country’s prominence in international competitions.
