Education Ministers Urge Students to Embrace Japan for Higher Studies and Careers

Technical Sessions Highlight Japanese Language and Career Opportunities at Conclave

The third India-Japan Education Conclave took place at Cotton University on 28 September organized by the Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC) and the Capacity Building Centre (CBC) in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra. The event aimed to enhance bilateral educational ties, drawing together educationists, policymakers, and industry representatives from India and Japan with significant student participation. The inaugural session featured notable speakers, including Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Government of India, as the chief guest; Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Government of Assam, as the guest of honor; Jiro Kodera from the Embassy of Japan in India; Siddharth Deshmukh, President of IJBC; and Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University.

During his address, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized that cultural exchange is vital to mutual understanding. Learning the Japanese language and appreciating their rich culture can transform the young generation, it equips them with essential skills to showcase their talent and grow in our interconnected world. State Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu noticed the strong similarities between India and Japan, specifically in the Northeast region, where culture, food habits, and hospitality share similar ground. Japan is an attractive destination for higher education and student job opportunities due to its welcoming and comfortable environment.

Siddharth Deshmukh, President of the Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC), set the stage for the conclave, while Prof. Ramesh Ch. Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, delivered the keynote address. Dr. Sangeeta Barthakur, Director of the Capacity Building Centre at Cotton University, provided the welcome address, highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the CBC to foster India-Japan collaborations. In the technical sessions, noteworthy points are discussed such as the Japanese language and education in Northeast India, a panel on career opportunities in Japan, education pathways, and a calligraphy demonstration, enriching the participants' understanding of Japan's educational landscape.

The event was based on exploring collaboration opportunities across various educational domains, including higher education, research, and vocational training. Participants engaged in discussions about potential partnerships between Japanese institutions and those in Northeast India, as well as student exchange programs and joint research initiatives. Alongside students and officials from Cotton University, vice-chancellors, and faculty members from other institutions also attended the event.
