KOICA Supports India’s Mechatronics Education with New Vocational Training Project
India and South Korea Sign Key Vocational Training Agreement in Mechatronics

India and South Korea share a Special Strategic Partnership, which was elevated in 2015. This partnership focuses on various areas, including economic cooperation, defence, and cultural exchanges. A few days back on 22 January, India and South Korea had signed an exchange of notes for a technical cooperation project titled 'Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Mechatronics in India.'The recent technical cooperation project further strengthens this relationship, showcasing their commitment to skill development and technological innovation.
In October 2016, the Republic of Korea was designated as India's Official Development Assistance (ODA) partner for development cooperation. Additionally, the bilateral relationship between India and South Korea was upgraded to a 'Special Strategic Partnership' in 2015.
According to the Indian finance ministry, the project will be implemented with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) of the Republic of Korea, marking the first such initiative in India with KOICA's assistance. The two-year project aims to establish vocational education and training in mechatronics in India, led by NCERT at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE) in Bhopal. The institute will develop curriculum, textbooks, teacher's manuals, and equipment while enhancing teachers' capacity in mechatronics and fostering industry-RIE networking. The signing of the exchange of notes for the NCERT project will further consolidate and strengthen the special strategic partnership between India and South Korea.
