Union Education Minister Unveils AI Initiative to Boost National Capabilities
India Set to Launch Three New AI Centres of Excellence on October 15

Artificial Intelligence has immense power and all the countries around the world are utilising its countless benefits in various fields. To enhance India’s AI capabilities, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is ready to launch three new AI Centres of Excellence in New Delhi on October 15 which will focus on key areas such as Healthcare, Agriculture, and Sustainable Cities, according to a release from the Press Information Bureau.
This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of “Viksit Bharat”, “Make AI in India” and “Make AI work for India” which will establish a robust AI ecosystem in the country. The CoEs will be led by top-notch educational institutions in collaboration with industry leaders and startups. Their primary goal is to conduct interdisciplinary research, develop innovative AI applications, and create scalable solutions in these essential areas.
These centers will also bring together experts from various fields such as computer science, engineering, healthcare, agriculture, and urban planning, which will lead to providing innovative solutions and advancements in AI technology. It will create scalable solutions, nurture high-quality human resources, and collaborate with various industry experts and partners, which will position India as a global leader in AI technology and attract international collaboration and investments.
The government has approved a total financial budget of Rs. 990 crores for the project for the creation of these centers over the next five years. To oversee the implementation of this initiative, an Apex Committee has been established, co-chaired by Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation. Attendees at the event will include K. Sanjay Murthy, Directors of IITs, heads of higher educational institutions, industry leaders, startup founders, and senior officials from various ministries of the Government of India.
