NEP to Bring Holistic and Progressive Educational Reforms to Indian Schools in Oman
Jan 06, 2025 |
The Board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman has announced plans to implement India’s National Education Policy (NEP) across all Indian schools in Oman. The new policy introduces a holistic approach to education, focusing on the developmental needs of children at every stage. The implementation of India’s National Educational Policy is a significant step towards transforming the educational landscape for students in Oman. The NEP’s holistic approach emphasizes the developmental needs of students and it will foster critical thinking, creativity and a well-rounded education.
According to the NEP, the foundational stage will now consist of three years of Kindergarten (ages 3 to 6), followed by classes 1 and 2 for children aged 6 to 8. The preparatory stage will include classes 3 to 5 for children aged 8 to 11, while the middle stage will cover classes 6 to 8 for 11 to 14-year-olds. The secondary stage will span classes 9 to 12 for students aged 14 to 18.
The NEP’s pre-school program is set to begin in the academic year 2025-2026, with valid transfer certificates required for interschool transfers. However, the promotion of currently enrolled students from KG 1 to KG 2 and from KG 2 to Class 1 will continue as per the existing procedure. This move by Indian Schools Oman highlights their commitment to delivering an education that meets the evolving needs of students and prepares them for future challenges.
