Ivy League Football: Yale Takes Early Lead as Harvard Challenges for Top Spotnote

Ivy League Showdown Looms as Yale Tops Preseason Poll, Harvard Close Behind

In the Ivy League preseason football poll announced on August 5, Yale leads the race with six first-place votes and 114 points, just outperforming Harvard, which received seven first-place votes and 108 points. Yale, Harvard, and Dartmouth split the league title last year. If the poll predictions are correct, the season finale between Yale and Harvard might determine the 2024 champion.

Penn is ranked third with 88 points and two first-place votes, in the poll. Dartmouth and Princeton are tied for fourth place with 80 points each, with Princeton receiving the final first-place vote. Brown, Cornell, and Columbia follow with 56, 26 and 24 points, respectively.

Yale, seeking its third consecutive Ivy League championship, has a significant obstacle. Last season, after a shaky start with defeats to Holy Cross and Cornell, the Bulldogs rebounded to win seven of their final eight games, including a crucial 23-18 triumph against Harvard. They finished 7-3 overall and tied for the Ivy crown at 5-2.
