Established in 1955, Jadavpur University in Kolkata is a renowned public research institution celebrated for its academic excellence and unwavering commitment to intellectual freedom. The university's origins can be traced back to the National Council of Education (NCE), founded in 1906 during India’s Swadeshi movement. Over the years, Jadavpur University has evolved into a globally recognized centre for research and innovation, consistently ranking among India's top universities. In 1921, former students established the NCE Alumni Association, which relocated with the university to its current campus in 1924. The Association celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, marking a century of fostering academic and professional growth.
Founded in 1956, the Mumbai Branch of the N.C.E Bengal and Jadavpur University Alumni Association initially facilitated alumni interactions. Its objectives have since expanded to include knowledge sharing and charitable activities. Today, over 350 active members are engaged in various industries, professional organizations, and government agencies. Taking progressive steps, the university, in association with the Mumbai Chapter of The Alumni Association, N.C.E Bengal, is set to host its 16th National Conference titled ‘Indian @ 2030: Energy, Economy, Employment.’ This esteemed event will convene thought leaders from academia, business, and economics for a comprehensive day-long symposium. The primary focus will be to deliberate on critical issues impacting India's development trajectory and its aspirations to emerge as a global power by 2030. Through insightful discussions and expert analyses, the conference aims to contribute to the collective understanding of India's path forward in achieving its ambitious goals.
The event will be inaugurated by Debashis Chatterjee, CEO of LTIMindtree and a Jadavpur University alumnus, with Pankaj Kumar, Director of Production at ONGC, delivering the keynote address. The conference will feature three panels discussing Energy, Economy, and Employment, with experts from India’s academic, business, and economic sectors. Nearly 200 participants, including Jadavpur University alumni, academicians, policymakers, business executives, and alumni from other top universities, are expected to attend. Dibyendu Chakraborty, Chairman of the Conference Committee, emphasized the need for employment opportunities for India’s youth to strengthen its economy. He highlighted the deep connection between energy and economic growth. The conference, titled ‘India@2030: Energy, Economy, Employment,’ will explore these links. Several organizations, including ONGC, Siemens, and Halliburton, have pledged support as donors.
Rudranath Banerjee, President of the Mumbai Alumni Association, expressed gratitude to the donors for their support, which funds educational programs for deserving students at Jadavpur University and in Mumbai. He highlighted that the association offers scholarships and assistance through the Jadavpur University Alumni Association Bombay Branch Trust, established in 1980, which has disbursed over Rs 70 lakhs for education. This conference represents a significant step toward understanding and addressing the critical issues that will shape India's future, reinforcing the university's commitment to academic excellence and national development.
