JGU Launches Study Abroad Programmes in Law and FinTech at Cambridge

O.P. Jindal Global University Signs Landmark MoUs with University of Cambridge

In a significant move to deepen global academic engagement, O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has formalised strategic partnerships with two renowned colleges of the University of Cambridge, Lucy Cavendish College and Murray Edwards College. These Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), signed during a high-level academic delegation visit in early July 2025, represent a pivotal step in JGU’s mission to foster inclusive, globally relevant education.

This collaboration aligns with JGU’s broader vision of expanding international partnerships and delivering transformative learning experiences for both students and faculty. By joining forces with Cambridge’s legacy of academic excellence and its commitment to diversity, JGU seeks to advance educational innovation, intercultural dialogue, and global citizenship across disciplines. Given that Lucy Cavendish and Murray Edwards Colleges are widely recognised for championing inclusive education, their shared values closely mirror JGU’s institutional ethos. The MoUs, therefore, mark a key milestone in promoting academic cooperation centred on innovation, access, diversity, and inclusive excellence.

As part of the first phase of this partnership, JGU will launch two Short-Term Study Abroad Programmes: Commercial Laws and Corporate Governance at Lucy Cavendish College, and The Era of FinTech: Blockchain, AI, and Digital Inclusion at Murray Edwards College. Nearly 100 JGU students are expected to participate in these immersive academic experiences, gaining exposure to global perspectives and interdisciplinary knowledge in fields such as law, business, finance, and technology.

Students will have the opportunity to study under distinguished scholars, thereby sharpening their critical thinking and enhancing their academic and professional competencies. Professor (Dr) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU, described the collaboration as a landmark moment for Indian higher education, underscoring a shared commitment to global citizenship and educational innovation. Echoing this sentiment, Professor Dame Madeleine Atkins of Lucy Cavendish College expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting its alignment with the college’s mission to foster global connections and transformative learning. Similarly, Emma Hilditch of Murray Edwards College welcomed the opportunity to host JGU’s FinTech programme and anticipated a long-standing academic relationship. The initiative is also viewed as a vital step in strengthening India–UK academic ties. Professor Padmanabha Ramanujam of JGU highlighted that the partnership promotes accessible global education and offers students meaningful academic and intercultural experiences.

Further reinforcing the collaboration’s significance, Professor Karan Latayan noted that cross-border academic programmes expose students to leading global traditions while fostering innovation and intellectual exchange. Professor Aakriti Tripathi added that the initiative would enhance legal education by enabling students to engage with global experts in corporate law and digital finance. Meanwhile, Professor (Dr) Akhil Bhardwaj described the partnership as a cornerstone of JGU’s global engagement strategy, offering students valuable exposure to leadership development and international career pathways.

JGU’s growing global reputation is reflected in its consistent recognition: ranked India’s top private university for three consecutive years by the QS World University Rankings 2023, placed among the top 150 young universities globally, and listed within the top 500 in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022. Its law school, JGLS, has also maintained the top position among Indian law schools and was recently ranked 78th worldwide in the QS Subject Rankings for Law. This collaboration strengthens JGU’s global academic footprint and also sets a benchmark for inclusive, future-ready education.

Editor’s Note:

The partnership between O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) and two well-known colleges at the University of Cambridge, Lucy Cavendish and Murray Edwards, is a big step forward for international education. These agreements go beyond just student exchanges or short study trips. They show a shared goal of promoting learning that is inclusive, forward-thinking, and focused on high academic standards. At the same time, Cambridge colleges are excited to welcome talented students from India. The programmes will cover important topics like corporate law, governance, digital finance, and artificial intelligence skills that matter in today’s connected world. Creating meaningful exchange programmes gives young people a chance to see the world differently and prepares them to become thoughtful global citizens. It also shows that good education today needs to be both international and inclusive.

Skoobuzz holds the view that this collaboration is a great example of how universities in different countries can work together to shape future leaders with global awareness and a shared sense of purpose.
