Higher Education Minister Announces Plan to Recruit 5,000 Educators

In a significant move to address staffing shortages, the Higher Education Minister, M.C. Sudhakar, has announced plans to fill 5,000 vacant positions in the Higher Education Department, including assistant professor roles. This initiative is part of the government's broader commitment, as outlined in the Congress manifesto, to fill 2.5 lakh posts over the next five years. The announcement was made during an orientation program for newly appointed assistant professors, highlighting the government's dedication to strengthening the higher education sector and ensuring quality education for students. The event was attended by Srikar M.S., Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Majushree N., Commissioner of Collegiate Education, and others.
The Chief Minister had confirmed that vacancies in the Higher Education Department would be filled, with discussions held with the Finance Department. The Minister added that the appointment of 310 principals for degree colleges, pending for 20 years, would be completed by next month. He acknowledged the pressure from hundreds of people regarding the recruitment process but explained that the issue was complex. He emphasized that the government's goal was to resolve it without causing future legal complications for the candidates.
The Minister highlighted that government degree colleges face challenges competing with private institutions and urged newly-appointed assistant professors to work hard to provide greater educational opportunities for rural students, meeting their expectations. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized Karnataka's reputation for quality education, with over 200 engineering and 70 medical colleges, and stressed the responsibility of newly-appointed professors to prepare students outside of these fields. Overall, the Karnataka government has taken the required steps to address the staff shortage issue which will improve the quality of education and provide support to students.
