According to Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, the decision was communicated during a meeting with private medical and dental college representatives. While the colleges had requested a 10 to 15 per cent fee hike, the Minister noted that a 10 per cent increase was already granted last year and deemed sufficient for now.

Dr Patil further clarified that the government would not allow any additional hike in fees this year and indicated that a formal agreement reflecting this decision would be signed shortly. The minister’s stance underscores the state’s commitment to ensuring access to medical education remains financially viable for students and their families. It is also worth noting that Karnataka has one of the highest numbers of medical colleges in the country, including both government and private institutions, making such policy decisions particularly impactful.
