Kizuna 2024: Promoting India-Japan Ties Through Traditional and Contemporary Japanese Art

The Centre for Japanese Studies, School of Language, Literature, and Culture Studies (SLL&CS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in India, is set to host Kizuna 2024, a distinguished cultural festival that will celebrate both the traditional and contemporary facets of Japanese culture. The event occurred on  November 21, 2024, at the Convention Centre, Auditorium I, JNU. The Convention Centre at JNU served as the venue for the festival, providing a space for visitors to explore and celebrate the enduring cultural ties between India and Japan. Entry to the event was free, inviting all to participate in this distinctive celebration of friendship and artistic exchange between the two nations.

The Japanese cultural event aims to promote cultural understanding and strengthen the people-to-people ties between India and Japan. Furthermore, the festival will offer a diverse array of activities and performances, providing an immersive experience of Japan's rich cultural heritage and its modern artistic expressions. The day’s events commenced with a series of workshops from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, where participants engaged in traditional Japanese crafts such as Yukata demonstrations, Origami, and Calligraphy. In addition, the festival featured Furuhonichi, a traditional book market, offering a rare collection of Japanese texts and materials for enthusiasts and collectors.

Following that the event had stage performances by Japanese language institutions, showcasing Japanese culture’s linguistic and artistic vibrancy. These performances were designed to offer an engaging experience for audiences of all ages. The Japanese event promises to be more than just a cultural event; it offered a valuable opportunity for individuals to connect, learn, and appreciate the depth and beauty of Japanese traditions and their continued relevance in the contemporary world.

Kizuna 2024 is significant as it showcased the rich cultural heritage of Japan but also strengthens the cultural ties between India and Japan.
