Kurukshetra University Expands Opportunities with Spanish Exchange Programmes

Beyond The Borders: Kurukshetra University Initiates Exchange Partnerships with Spain

The first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, laid the foundation for Kurukshetra University, which was founded in 1956 as a unitary residential university. Situated on the western bank of Brahm Sarover, the holy tank, and spanning over 400 acres, the campus of this sacred city is located in Kurukshetra. In this place, the historical conflict of "Mahabharata” took place. From its humble beginnings as the Department of Sanskrit alone, it has developed into a multi-faculty university and become one of the leading hubs for postgraduate research and study in the area. The relationship between India and Spain has the potential to undergo transformative growth and mutual enrichment in the field of educational diplomacy. This collaboration, which crosses borders and cultures, not only promotes academic interchange but also deepens understanding between our countries. India and Spain are paving the path for a future in which information transcends national boundaries and both experts and students thrive in an increasingly interconnected world as they begin joint educational efforts.

In the modern era, where the world is tremendously interconnected, the exchange program between Kurukshetra University and universities in Spain stands as a beacon of international collaboration and cultural enrichment. All India University Association(AIU) and  Crue Universidades Espanolas in Spain signed a contract for the exchange program. In all normative developments impacting higher education in Spain, Crue serves as the primary point of contact between Spanish universities and the Central government. Kurukshetra University (KU)  signed an agreement with Spanish Universities to coordinate faculty, students, and research exchange programs. Vice-chancellor (VC) of KU, Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva, made this announcement upon his return from an Indian delegation tour to Spanish universities. He mentioned that a group of vice-chancellors from different Indian institutions spent a week visiting universities in Spain.

Under the patronage of AIU, a meeting was held at Barcelona among the Vice-chancellors of over 20 Indian Universities and the vice-chancellors of 25 top Spanish universities including Vigo University, Barcelona University, University Abat Oliba CEU, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Polytechnic University Catalonia, UIC Barcelona, Obrial Global IE University, Madrid University, and Valladolid University take part in this agreement. In this regard, Jimmy Sharma, the deputy director of public relations at KU, stated that from July 7 to July 11, 2024, KU VC Prof. Sachdeva, along with other members of the Indian delegation, had extensive discussions regarding research, faculty, and student exchange programs with the faculty of numerous Spanish universities. Prof. Sachdeva also examined the academic and research activities of the Spanish universities, according to Sharma, who was a member of the team. KU will ink Memorandums of Understanding with Spanish universities shortly. This exchange program surely presents Indian students, faculty, and research programs of Kurukshetra University at a global level, while it also gives immense benefit to Spanish universities in the field of research as stated by Sharma.
