Thapar Institute and NVIDIA Joined Hands To Build AI University

Joint Venture of "TIET and NVIDIA For Launch of AI-Enabled University in India!

Envision a classroom where artificial intelligence (AI) customizes each student's learning path to maximize engagement and academic success. AI is revolutionizing education, opening the door for a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment with its predictive analytics and tailored coaching capabilities. The Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) and NVIDIA have partnered to create an AI-enabled institution, marking a major advancement in both education and technology in India. With technical assistance from the NVIDIA AI University program, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) announced on 5th July that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and collaborated with the company to launch the Thapar School of Advanced AI & Data Science (TSAAI).

TSAAI would be set up at the Patiala campus of TIET as per the agreement signed by both partners. This initiative is to provide a variety of academic programs, research opportunities, and innovation projects to enhance the knowledge of staff and students with critical AI skills. To prepare students for the 21st century’s challenges this partnership is ready to incorporate AI into a variety of academic fields. TIET will set up AI infrastructure utilizing NVIDIA DGX systems with NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs, NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs, and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform to develop and implement generative AI. Equipped with approximately 8 terabytes of GPU memory, the data center will provide 227 petaflops of AI capability. To further empower the AI-based startups, TIET will use 500 Jetson nano developer kits to set up edge computing infrastructure along with core accelerated computing infrastructure. 

Focusing on building deep AI skills TSAAI will develop a new Undergraduate program in AI for four years. It will offer BE in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to ensure all students are AI literate. A Master's Program in AI, ML, and DS is planned to be introduced later, with a focus on working professionals. All TIET students will receive nine credits of AI instruction, regardless of their curriculum. Furthermore, NVIDIA intends to provide eligible TIET-incubated AI firms with access to the advantages of its "Inception" program.
