Lovely Professional University's 11th Convocation Celebrates Academic Excellence

Hon’ble Tony Abbott Honored as Chief Guest, Inspires Graduating Students to Embrace Leadership

Lovely Professional University (LPU) honoured its students, at their 11th annual Convocation on Sunday, with Australian Prime Minister Hon'ble Tony Abbott as the Chief Guest. Mr. Tony Abbott was bestowed an honorary doctorate, Honoris Causa at the ceremony, and over 60,000 graduating students received their degrees in diverse domains. The conferral of honorary doctorate upon Hon’ble Tony Abbott was the ninth such recognition by the University. The previous recipients included esteemed leaders such as Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Nobel Peace Prize laureates, including His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

Hon’ble Tony Abbott recognized the achievements of 102 gold medalists and 555 PhD scholars of the University. He also acknowledged the accomplishments of 567 exemplary students, excelling both in academics and co-curricular activities. The event also marked the graduation of LPU’s first batch of ‘Online Mode Students’. Hon’ble Tony Abbott is a notable statesman, scholar, and leader who served as the 28th Prime Minister of Australia from 2013 to 2015. He has been consistent in valuing India and its cause and has advocated for India’s liberal democratic leadership on a global scale.

The Founder Chancellor of LPU, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal conveyed his delight at having the Hon’ble Tony Abbott as a chief guest at the convocation. Dr. Mittal underlined the partnership between LPU and 16 prestigious Australian Universities, as well as shared the university’s recent achievements: NAAC A++ Grade, with a score of 3.86, getting top ranks in Times Higher Education World Ranking 2024 and NIRF Rankings 2023. LPU students and alumni also received big placement packages of up to Rs. 3 crore. Dr. Mittal also encouraged the graduates to carry the spirit of research (Anusandhan) for a brighter future and also referenced the national slogan “Jai Anusandhan”, given by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to LPU.

The convocation ceremony was attended by esteemed guests, including, Lovely Group Chairman Mr. Ramesh Mittal, Vice-Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, LPU’s Vice-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Community Leader in Australia Mr. Jagvinder Singh Virk, Vice Chancellor GNDU & former Secretary, UGC Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, as well as industrialists, and other dignitaries.
