Speaker Mike Johnson Invites Louisiana Students to Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Mike Johnson Encourages Louisiana Students to Showcase Artistic Talent in Congressional Competition

Speaker Mike Johnson encouraged all high school students from Louisiana, who had a passion for art, photography, or design to participate in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition.

It is a nationwide visual art contest for high school students. One piece of artwork from each congressional district, chosen by a panel of judges will then be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building. The second and third places will be displayed in Speaker Johnson’s congressional offices. All the winners will be honoured at an award reception and art show in Bossier City.

Speaker Johnson made history by becoming the first Speaker of the House from Louisiana. In lieu of this achievement, students were to celebrate Louisiana’s rich history and depict “Legendary Louisiana” in their artwork. They could include the people, places, or events that made Louisiana legendary.

The artwork entered in concert could have a maximum dimension of 26 inches x 26 inches, up to 4 inches in depth, and could not weigh more than 15 pounds. The winning art piece would be framed and remain within the mentioned dimensions.

The deadline for submission was from April 1 to April 5, 2024.

For more details, students could contact the Bossier City Office at 318-840-0309.

Editor's Note:

Paintings for “Legendary Louisiana'' will serve as a testament to not only the state’s rich history but also the talent it fosters. It will also allow students to dig deeper into the history, and explore the culture and monuments their resident state has, bringing them closer to the place they call home. To appreciate the hard work and talent of the students who made their submissions and got selected, the artworks will be placed in the Capitol Building and also Speaker Johnson’s Congressional offices. These initiatives by the state government are commendable and show their interest in promoting the creative aspirations of their youth on a national stage. Skoobuzz eagerly anticipates all the submissions and wishes for a successful outcome for all the talented artists.
