Some New England universities and colleges break the $90,000 barrier for the total cost in the upcoming school year
Understanding the Rising Tuition Fees and Financial Aid Options
Apr 03, 2024 |
With an exponential increase in tuition fees to more than $90,000 per year in top universities like Yale, Tufts, Wellesley, and Boston University the value of college education is declining, with Tufts University increasing it maximum to an amount of $95,888, which includes fees and living expenses, followed by Wellesley College which is demanding $92,060 and Boston University at $90,207
With Brown University and Yale University also joining the $90,000 club students and parents are intimated about meeting the rising costs. Though scholarships can come in handy and according to last year’s average Boston University provided over $26,000, while Tufts University offered a lower cost of $30,336 for students qualified for need-based help. But even after these financial aid measures the total cost of attending these institutions remains fairly higher than the national average.
The upsurge in college costs is not limited to New England. Tuition fees at public and private institutions in the United States have increased dramatically over the last two decades. Even in-state public universities once considered less expensive, have seen significant tuition increases. In 2018, colleges in New England reached the $70,000 mark, and this trend does not appear to be slowing. Although several private universities in the Boston area still offer lower tuition prices, the overall picture paints a worrying picture of the affordability of higher education.
Editor's note:
With college fees increasing exponentially, education seems fairly unattainable to the general public. Even though scholarships can help with the increased costs they only cover a fraction of the cost and are creating stressful situations for students and their families. Skoobuzz would like to bring this to light hoping favourable steps will be taken for students and help them navigate through these challenging statistics.
