Dec 21, 2024 |
The University of York has joined the North Sea University Partnership, a new consortium focused on aligning UK-Norway research priorities. Initial projects will concentrate on the green transition, energy, marine research, and cultural heritage, with future collaboration expected in Arctic research and health. The consortium is composed of the Universities of York, Leeds, Newcastle, Durham, Bergen, Oslo, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, along with The University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway.
Professor Ambrose Field, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategy, described the partnership as an exciting initiative building on historical ties between the North of England and Norway. He highlighted that, over the next two years, it will focus on four key themes aligned with UK and Norwegian government priorities, aiming to generate local impact and contribute to global solutions in climate, health, and sustainability. The partnership builds on a 2022 UK-Norway declaration emphasizing the role of science and innovation in both economies. It covers areas like defence, climate, research, education, and culture, and aligns with the 'Money Follows Cooperation' agreement between UKRI and the Research Council of Norway.
This partnership represents a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the UK and Norway, also bringing impactful solutions that benefit both nations and contribute to global challenges such as climate change, health, and sustainability.
