NOVA, the Carbon-Neutral Baby, Inspires a Global Movement for Sustainability
Seerakku’s Groundbreaking Initiative Aims to Inspire a Carbon-Neutral Future
Dec 10, 2024 |
NOVA, the world’s first carbon-neutral baby, was formally introduced to the global community at a landmark event in Korattur, Chennai. Born on March 3, 2023, in Tamil Nadu, India, NOVA, also known as D.J. Aadavi made history by achieving carbon neutrality at just 11 months and 16 days old. The initiative, spearheaded by parents Dinesh Kshatriyan and Janaganandhini D, sought to reduce NOVA’s carbon footprint and promote sustainable living and environmental conservation.
The couple, founders of the start-up Seerakku, have launched Project Nova, a bold initiative to reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainability. Launched in January 2023, Seerakku’s mission is to reduce human environmental impact using innovative tools like a carbon footprint calculator to ensure a sustainable future. The project combines carbon offsetting, food forestry, and NFTs to create a sustainable future.
At the event, NOVA was honored with the Asia Book of Records for her remarkable achievement. A.S. Kumari, Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women, presented the accolade. Additionally, Mr. Deepak Srivastava IFS, Chief Mission Director of Green Mission Tamil Nadu, officially appointed Aadavi as the Child Ambassador of Green Mission Tamil Nadu. He praised NOVA's accomplishment and highlighted the significance of collective action in addressing climate change. The event also featured insightful discussions on environmental sustainability, carbon neutrality, and the vital role of individuals and organizations in fostering a more resilient future.
The couple started their journey in 2023 and traveled to Shivalingapuram in Tamil Nadu. They, alongside local farmers, planted 6000 food-based trees on two acres. The forest includes 700 lemon trees, 100 coconut trees, and various apple varieties. A drip irrigation system was installed, and long-term maintenance plans were developed. The project aims to offset carbon emissions while providing sustainable food sources for future generations. The founders also hope the initiative will inspire climate-conscious choices in families worldwide. Seerakku partners with Paul Flynn-GROToken, Pasumai Thayagam NGO, Beyond Sustainability, and Neulancers to help achieve a voluntary carbon offset and create an NFT certificate representing the project’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Project Nova symbolises that collaborative efforts can drive sustainable development, and provide a carbon-free future to the next generations.
