New Era for Art Education: PSU Begins Construction on Schnitzer School for Future Artists

Portland State University (PSU), a prominent public research institution in Portland, Oregon, has officially commenced construction on a new state-of-the-art building for its Schnitzer School of Art, Art History, and Design. Located on the South Park Blocks, the 98,000-square-foot facility is set to open in fall 2026. This new building will consolidate the school's programs, which are currently spread across multiple locations.

The facility will feature light-filled classrooms, studios, and galleries, designed to foster creativity and collaboration among students, faculty, and the public. The project is funded through a combination of $81.6 million in public bonds and $8.7 million in private donations. PSU President Ann Cudd emphasized the significance of creativity and innovation in the university's mission, noting that diverse perspectives and creative thinking are essential for solving global challenges. The new facility is expected to enhance Portland's reputation as a hub for creative thinkers, artists, and innovators.
