Defying Age Norms: Jay Kishore Pradhan’s Inspiring Journey into Medicine at 64

Achieving Dreams: Pradhan’s Path to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences After Retirement

After retirement, many people choose to embrace a more relaxed lifestyle, one with no work or commitments. But, there are a few individuals in society who start their second innings of life with great enthusiasm, exploring new passions and opportunities. In Indian society, where age often influences professional decisions, Jay Kishore Pradhan stands out as an inspiring example. He has proven that it's never too late to follow your passions and start over at 64.

Rather than pursuing his retirement life in a leisurely manner, Odisha-born Pradhan chose to pursue a career in medicine after serving as a deputy manager at the State Bank of India. He believed that passion and commitment are ageless, it’s not about how old you are, it’s about how committed you are to achieving your goals. It was not easy for him to juggle household duties and prepare for one of India’s most difficult examinations, the NEET.

While preparing for the examination, Pradhan approached the task in a systematic and focused way by first enrolling in an online coaching program that provided structured guidance for the NEET exam. Balancing family responsibilities with the tough NEET curriculum was challenging for Pradhan. However, his persistent efforts and unwavering determination kept him on track and he proved that with focus and resilience, any impossible task can be completed. In 2020, all his hard work paid off as he successfully cleared the NEET exam and earned a seat in the prestigious Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). This achievement marked a significant milestone in his long-held dream of entering the medical field.

The National Medical Commission Act of 2019 underscores that there is no upper age limit for candidates taking NEET (UG). This policy encourages individuals of all ages to pursue their ambitions, emphasizing that the desire for education and personal growth has no expiration date.
