Dharwad to Host Major Badminton Tournament with Support from Canara, Karnataka Banks
South Zone Women’s Badminton Tournament to Feature 100 Universities Across South India

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Engineering and Technology (SDMCET), located in Dharwad, Karnataka, is a renowned autonomous engineering institution established in 1979 under the SDME Society. Recognized for its exceptional academic standards and state-of-the-art infrastructure, SDMCET is consistently ranked among India’s top private engineering colleges.
SDMCET, Dharwad, in collaboration with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, will organize the South Zone Inter-University Women’s Badminton Tournament from November 26 to 28 in Dharwad. Furthermore, this event brings together top women’s badminton players from various universities in the southern region of India, providing a great platform for showcasing talent and fostering a competitive spirit among young athletes.
On November 23, SDMCET principal Ramesh Chakrasali announced that over 600 athletes and approximately 200 coaches from 100 universities across Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Telangana, and Karnataka would participate in the tournament. The inaugural ceremony of the sports meet is scheduled for November 26 at the SDMCET auditorium. Prof. Chakrasali mentioned that the Vice-Chancellor of VTU, S. Vidyashankar, the secretary of the SDM Education Society, Jeevandhar Kumar, badminton players Mridula Prabhu, M. Vijaykumar, and the Vice-Chancellor of SDM University, Niranjan Kumar, would be the chief guests for the ceremony.
The tournament will be held at the District Indoor Stadium in Dharwad and the SDM College Indoor Stadium. P.V. Rao and Suresh will serve as referees for the event, which is being organized with the support of Canara Bank and Karnataka Bank. In addition, the college has made all the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the
tournament, and free accommodation and meals will be provided to the participants. The South Zone Inter-University Women’s Badminton Tournament brings together top athletes across southern India. It showcases exceptional talent and fosters a competitive spirit among young athletes, further enhancing SDMCET’s reputation and its commitment to promoting sports and academic excellence.
