School Education Department Enhances IT Infrastructure with New Hi-Tech Labs

12,043 Computers to be Installed in 175 Government Higher Secondary Schools in Tamil Nadu

The School Education Department of Tamil Nadu has approved a substantial budget of ₹57.8 crore for the establishment of computer science labs in 175 government higher secondary schools across the state. This initiative aims to enhance the technological capabilities of students by providing them with hands-on training in computer technology and coding.

According to a Government Order (G.O.), a total of 12,043 computers will be installed in these 175 schools, ensuring a ratio of one computer for every five students as part of the first phase. This move follows the announcement made by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in June, where he highlighted plans to upgrade existing hi-tech labs and establish new ones.

As the demand for coding skills continues to grow in the field of information technology, the newly established hi-tech labs will offer students valuable opportunities to learn and practice coding. The labs, set up at a cost of ₹57,80,64,000, will be installed in schools, with the School Education Director responsible for selecting the company to handle the setup.

In addition to this initiative, the Information Technology and Digital Initiatives component, funded jointly by the Centre and State governments on a 60:40 basis, has already seen the establishment of hi-tech labs in 3,090 government high schools and 2,939 government higher secondary schools. This comprehensive approach aims to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital age.

Editor's Note

The Tamil Nadu government's initiative to allocate ₹57.8 crore for establishing computer science labs in government higher secondary schools marks a significant stride towards digital inclusion. By equipping 175 schools with 12,043 computers, this move will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in computer technology and coding. This investment not only bridges the digital divide but also empowers students with essential skills for the future, fostering innovation and preparing them for the demands of the modern workforce. As these hi-tech labs become operational, it is imperative to ensure effective implementation and continuous support to maximize their impact on student learning and engagement.

Skoobuzz appreciates this forward-thinking initiative and hopes it will positively influence the future of education in Tamil Nadu.
