Three Day Seminar at Manipur University Commemorates World Anthropology Day

Insights from Manipur University Seminar to Explore Anthropology's Impact

On the occasion of ‘World Anthropology Day’ an international seminar, spanning over three days is being commenced in the auditorium at Manipur University and is centered around the theme of  "Anthropology in Practice: Health, Culture, and Security." Visionaries who graced the occasion included Manipur's Health Minister, Dr. S Ranjan Singh, alongside Prof. N Rajmuhon Singh, the Vice Chancellor of DM University, Prof. K Saratchandra, President of the Anthropological Society of Manipur, Prof. Vijoy S Sahay and Prof. S Jibonkumar Singh, the Head of the Anthropology Department at Manipur University.

Observed on the third Thursday of February every year, the day acknowledges the contributions made by anthropologists around the world to the study of human biology, behavior, and evolution of societies unpacking the complexities of human existence. Dr. Ranjan in the seminar focused on the significance of health in life and shed light on anthropology's perspective on culture, which encompasses societal practices, possessions, and perceptions. Further in the speech, he highlighted issues like mental health, law enforcement, violence, food security, and homelessness. He encouraged the role of seminars like these to navigate the challenges human society is facing. 

Throughout the seminar about thirteen presentations will be presented by invited speakers, combined with 120 papers that will cover various topics about anthropology and allow interested individuals with no prior knowledge an insight into the subject. In his welcome speech, Prof. Moirangthem Cha Arunkumar of the Anthropology Department at Manipur University conveyed optimism about the seminar’s contribution to educating the engagers about diverse aspects of anthropology in practice.
