Students Get More Opportunities to Enroll with New Biannual Admission Policy

UGC's Biannual Admissions Policy to Support Student Growth and Global Alignment

The Union Ministry of Education has announced that six central universities in India will offer admissions twice a year, a policy approved by the University Grants Commission. This decision provides students with more opportunities to enroll, improves planning, aligns with global educational practices, and reduces pressure by offering a second chance for admission. Overall, the initiative makes higher education more inclusive and adaptable to students' needs, supporting their academic and personal growth.

The universities implementing this change include the Central University of Kerala, Central University of Punjab, Central University of Rajasthan, University of Hyderabad, Tezpur University, and Nagaland University. Six central universities in India are leading the implementation of a new policy to offer admissions twice a year, in July/August and January/February. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made this biannual admissions option available to higher education institutions (HEIs), allowing them to adopt it based on readiness. Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, emphasized that universities must plan activities, such as semester examinations, to ensure smooth implementation. Other HEIs may also adopt the policy if they are prepared.

This initiative aims to improve access to higher education by providing more frequent admission opportunities, supporting the goal of making education more inclusive and adaptable to students' needs.
