Sustainability Takes Center Stage With North Campus' Vibrant World Environment Day Festivities

Realising the Responsibility Towards the Environment," North Campus University of Kashmir organized events

Every year on June 5th, the world celebrates World Environmental Day, the largest international celebration of environmental awareness. It has been observed annually since 1973 and was spearheaded by the United Nations Environment Programme. The topic for this year was "Preserving and Restoring Our Land." Given the pace at which environmental problems are growing and it is important to preserve the environment to protect human existence. Maintaining environmental preservation at the illustrious University of Kashmir, which is renowned for its active community, was an event to behold and the orgainsation arranged several events to highlight the true significance of World Environment Day.

To create awareness for environmental protection and sustainable practices all students, teachers, and staff of North Campus conducted activities that encouraged eco-friendly practices. The event started with a tree plantation ceremony and the entire campus was enthusiastic and spirited during the plantation which soon transformed into a green oasis. Post the plantation, participants also took oath for a green and clean environment.

To teach students about the main environmental issues informative workshops and seminars were organised, and practical solutions to the current environmental issues were discussed. Attendees learned how to implement the three R’s: reuse, reduce, and recycle, waste management and convert it to renewable energy sources. Experts from the field shared their valuable insights to empower participants so they can make a positive impact on the planet. 

The sustainability fair was one of the highlights where eco-friendly businesses showcased their products and initiatives, which motivated the attendees to learn about sustainable practices, buy environmentally friendly products, and interact with like-minded individuals who are passionate about creating a greener world.

During the event, all students, faculty, and staff came together to support a shared cause, showing the spirit of collaboration and community engagement, reminding us of our collective responsibility to safeguard the environment, and taking action to address environmental challenges. This event on Environmental Day inspired promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship in life and nudged us to create a more sustainable future for all.
