University of Oradea Collaborates with EU GREEN for Mountain Rescue Training
Future Rescuers: Oradea Students Train in Mountain Rescue with EU GREEN Support
Oct 22, 2024 |
The University of Oradea's initiative to train students in mountain rescue techniques, supported by EU GREEN, is a commendable effort to promote practical skills and environmental stewardship. Held in Stana de Vale, this program equipped 30 volunteers with essential rescue skills for mountainous terrains. The course took place at the "Gaudeamus" educational center in the mountain resort and was facilitated by two members of the Bihor County Mountain Rescue-Salvaspeo Bihor patrol.
Students from the University of Oradea had the opportunity to learn from representatives of the Mountain Rescue Service about essential mountain safety practices. They gained insights into what it means to venture into the mountains, the necessary equipment to carry, the importance of being informed about their planned routes, and actions they can take in critical situations while waiting for mountain rescuers. The workshop included practical activities, such as learning resuscitation techniques, which significantly engaged the students and also received valuable information about the institution, the equipment used by the service, and first aid techniques specific to accidents in mountainous areas.
Psychologist Adriana Borza, an expert in the EU GREEN WP5 Work Package, noted that the students participated in the theoretical courses and practical workshops with great enthusiasm. These activities are part of the calendar for the "Commitment to Sustainable Societies and Economies" (WP5) Work Package within the EU GREEN academic alliance. Since 2022, the University of Oradea has partnered with EU GREEN, an alliance comprising nine European universities that secured a project worth over 14 million euros. This funding will be invested over four years across the nine member universities to enhance education, research, internationalization, access, diversity, social inclusion, innovative management, and entrepreneurship for sustainability. The initiative also focuses on developing sustainable and green university campus spaces. The alliance aims to transform member universities into institutions of the future.
Editor’s Note:
The recent training session on basic rescue techniques at the "Gaudeamus" educational center in Stana de Vale reflects the University of Oradea's commitment to student safety in outdoor environments. Collaborating with the Bihor County Mountain Rescue-Salvaspeo Bihor patrol, the university equipped students with essential mountain safety practices, including first aid techniques and route planning. This initiative aligns with the goals of the EU GREEN project, which focuses on enhancing education and promoting sustainability across European universities. Overall, the training exemplifies the university's proactive approach to education and community engagement.
Skoobuzz thanks the expertise of the Mountain Rescue Service and the University of Oradea for integrating such hands-on training for students, which not only enhances their safety but also teaches them about environmental awareness and community service.
