Operational Coaching® Proven to Transform Management Effectiveness, University of Westminster Leads the Way

STAR® Programmes Empower Leaders with Proven Coaching Techniques to Boost Productivity and Engagement

The University of Westminster, recognized for its excellence and ranked among the top 20 institutions in the UK and within the global top 30 for international students, has proudly announced the introduction of the award-winning STAR® Coach Practitioner and Certified STAR® Manager Practitioner programmes. This initiative aligns with the university's commitment to providing high-impact, practical training that addresses the challenges faced by today's leaders and managers.

Created by the global consultancy Notion and offered in partnership with APMG, the programmes will be delivered by Westminster Business School, a leading business education centre in London. The university recognises the increasing pressure on line management staff, noting that outdated management approaches struggle to keep pace with the rapidly changing workforce dynamics. It also highlights the low employee engagement amidst "The Great Detachment," with Gallup research showing that management capabilities account for 70% of the variance in engagement levels.

The STAR® programmes offer a structured, evidence-based approach to enhancing management skills by teaching coaching behaviours in the flow of work. This approach fosters an Operational Coaching® style of management, which is ideal for improving productivity, employee engagement, retention, and leadership pipelines. Operational Coaching® has been proven to enhance management effectiveness in a UK Government-commissioned study conducted by the London School of Economics (LSE). The university emphasizes that this approach uses an enquiry-led method to effectively engage the workforce, making it highly applicable to modern workplaces.

The LSE study demonstrated that managers from 62 organizations across 14 sectors achieved measurable improvements in staff retention, engagement, and productivity. It found that managers spent, on average, 70% more time coaching their teams in the flow of work, resulting in a 74 times return on investment (ROI). The STAR® Coach and STAR® Manager programmes were selected for their unique ability to drive behavioural change. Designed for leaders at all levels, these accredited programmes enhance organizational culture and performance, making them a valuable addition to the University of Westminster’s business education offerings. The university continues to lead by providing innovative and practical training solutions, ensuring that today’s leaders and managers are well-equipped to face the challenges of the modern workplace.
