Verizon India and ILP Transform 38 Government Schools with New STEM Learning Tools

United Nations Sustainable Development Goal-4 sets out to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education along with promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. To inline this motive, Verizon India has begun the School Transformation Program at a government school in Chennai. Mr. Shankar Arumugavelu, Executive Vice President and President of Verizon Global Services, opened a new STEM lab and SMART classroom. STP was started in 2023 in collaboration with the India Literacy Project (ILP) to encourage over 13,000 children to pursue STEM jobs by improving science teaching and digital training in 38 government schools in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.

Verizon and ILP have collaborated to create a digital curriculum that gives students access to a variety of educational resources on an open platform. Teachers are provided a thorough curriculum to assist STEM education, with a motive to close the digital divide between rural and urban areas by improving the digital competency of students in rural government schools. Their knowledge and skills in the areas of coding, AI, and cybersecurity are improved via the program's self-learning modules.

For the "Lab-in-a-Box" program, Verizon India and ILP first collaborated in 2019. Through this partnership, approximately 450 government schools received STEM Science Kits and over 120,000 kids in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka benefited from this program.
