Recognition and Rewards for Cullman County Schools in Horace Mann's Academic Calendar Cover Design Contest
Mar 07, 2024 |
Two West Point students have achieved top honors in a national art contest, bringing recognition to Cullman County Schools on a broader scale. Sponsored by the Horace Mann Educators Corporation, a prominent financial services company dedicated to supporting educators, the contest tasked students with designing the cover for the upcoming academic calendar.
During the recent Cullman County School Board meeting, Horace Mann representative Greg Privett shared the exciting news. Aspen Sellers, a student at West Point High School, secured third place in the 9th-12th grade division, while Aliana Riggs, from West Point Intermediate School, emerged as the overall winner in the 4th-8th grade division.
Riggs explained that her winning artwork portrays a teacher nurturing a student, symbolized by flowers at different stages of growth. Reflecting on her inspiration, Riggs emphasized the profound impact of teachers on her educational journey, from elementary school to the present.
Both students had previously earned $500 for their first-place finishes at the regional level. Riggs's overall victory entitles her to an additional $1,000 from Horace Mann, with an additional $5,000 donation to her school to celebrate her achievement.
Editor's Note
Receiving merit not only allows students to believe in themselves but also provides them recognition and exposure on a bigger platform allowing them to pursue a creative career. Participating in such events, hence should be encouraged as it not only allows them to achieve the above-mentioned goals but also provides the school with recognition. Efforts by organizations like Horace Mann and educators are helpful in fostering artistic expression and permit students like Riggs and Seller to paint the desires of their hearts.
