FTC 2025 Showcases Future of Textiles, Celebrating Creativity and Innovation
Global Textile Experts Gather at FTC 2025 to Drive Industry Innovation

The World University of Design (WUD) partnered with IIT Delhi's Textile & Fiber Engineering Department to host the 4th International Conference on Functional Textiles and Clothing (FTC 2025). For the first time, the event featured a Functional Clothing contest and Fashion Show, where participants from Indian and international universities, along with WUD students, showcased their creativity. The contest was judged by fashion professionals Payal Jain, Ruchi Tripathi, and Sartaj Mehta.
The conference, held in collaboration with IIT Delhi, was the most successful yet, attracting 342 attendees over three days. It featured 109 oral presentations, 40 posters, 3 plenary sessions, 9 keynotes, a Fashion Show, and 27 contestants in the Functional Clothing Contest. Four individuals received the Global FTC Excellence Award, and a Trailblazers session showcased insights from three first-generation FTC entrepreneurs, offering valuable networking opportunities.
At the 4th FTC 2025, 12 WUD faculty presented papers, with four chairing sessions. WUD student teams swept the clothing contest, with Manya Goel, Mehek Maheswari, and Anjani winning first place, followed by Palak Kamboj, Jailakshmi, and Nishita in second, and Gauri Hans and Rupanshi Singh in third. The Global FTC Excellence Awards 2025 recognized Yogesh Kusumgar with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Tushar Ghosh with the Leadership in Research Award, Ashish Kansal for Industry Impact, and Samrat Som as the Emerging Innovator.
Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Gupta, Co-Chair of the organizing committee and Vice Chancellor of WUD praised the textile industry's role in India's economy. He highlighted the impact of the government's 5F Framework in transforming the factory-to-fashion process and emphasized the growing importance of functionality in textiles. Dr. Gupta stressed that the collaboration with IIT Delhi fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas, which he believed would drive innovation and global leadership in India's textile sector, with WUD playing a key role in shaping its future.
The conference, held biannually at IIT Delhi, continues to bring together leading scientists, researchers, designers, and professionals from the textile and apparel industries, providing a platform for discussions on the latest advancements, innovations, technologies, trends, challenges, and opportunities in the field of Functional Textiles and Clothing. The Conference on Functional Textiles and Clothing (FTC 2025) successfully highlighted the innovative spirit and dynamic collaboration between academia, industry, and design.
