Inauguration of Deakin University Campus in Gujarat Marks Milestone in Australia-India Education Collaboration

Deakin University Expands to India's GIFT City

Australia’s Deakin University has inaugurated its branch campus in GIFT City, Gujarat, making it the first ever country to set up a foreign campus in India. The inauguration took place during the 10th Edition of Vibrant Gujarat and the course will commence in July this year and provide courses in Master of Business Analytics and Master of Cybersecurity.

According to Australia’s High Commissioner, HE Philip Green OAM, it is only the beginning of the Australia-India education ties. In 2023, Australia welcomed over 1,22,000 students, and from this initiative students who wish to have exposure to international education will benefit from Australian education without leaving the country.

The University has been present in the country for the last 30 years and has made investments in all aspects of higher education. It has ties with the Indian Institutes of Technology, The Energy and Resource Institute, the Global Job Readiness program, and the National Skill Development Corporation. Moreover, Australia is planning to open India’s second foreign branch campus in GIFT City the University of Wollongong.

Editor’s Note:

International education isn’t as accessible in India as it is in other parts of the world and with this initiative, by spending a fraction of the money Indian students can avail the benefits of the Australian curriculum. Such ventures should be encouraged and aided by the government so that international education becomes more accessible to Indian students.
