Inclusivity Takes Center Stage at CM Trophy 2024 with Para Events and Young Talent

The CM Trophy 2024 is a sports event organized by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, featuring a variety of sports to promote physical fitness, talent identification, and competitive spirit among participants from different schools, colleges, and communities across Tamil Nadu. On 19 October, National Games medalist Deeksha Sivakumar from Chennai showcased her talent in the pool by winning two gold medals in one day during the school girls’ category at the CM Trophy 2024.
Deeksha started her winning streak by securing gold in the 50m backstroke with a time of 31.61 seconds, finishing ahead of Maria Winciya S from Thirunelveli (32.15 seconds) and J Archana from Tiruppur (34.20 seconds). She claimed another gold in the 100m freestyle, clocking 1:00.95 seconds. Adwika Girish Nair from Coimbatore took silver with a time of 1:04.44, while Sanju Shree R from Chengalpattu earned bronze with 1:10.26 seconds.
In the para category, Krishnagiri district’s Samuthiram clinched a gold medal in the men’s 100m race for visually challenged athletes, stopping the clock at 11.92 seconds for a convincing win. Coimbatore’s Suresh Kumar finished with a silver medal in 12.43 seconds, while Vengatesh from Ramanathapuram took home the bronze in 12.71 seconds. In the women’s 100m event, Karunyadevi demonstrated her dominance by completing the race in 13.17 seconds. Sandaiya from Theni claimed second place with a time of 15.26 seconds, while Nojisha from Kanniyakumari followed in third with 15.58 seconds. In the field events, R Balaji from Salem won the men’s shot put gold with a throw of 9.22 meters, while A Sivakami from Ariyalur captured the women’s shot put gold with a distance of 5.24 meters.
Sivakami, a seasoned competitor who has participated in Para games since 2012, expressed her joy at winning gold. She noted that there was no shot put event for visually challenged athletes last year, but it was included this year at their request which she was grateful about.
