Dr. Samuel Sesah, a young optometrist at the University Hospital of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has earned international recognition by being named a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) in the United States. This prestigious honour places Dr. Sesah among a distinguished group of optometrists and vision scientists in America. Founded over a century ago, the American Academy of Optometry is one of the most respected professional organizations for eyecare specialists. It provides its members optometrists and vision scientists with access to cutting-edge research, clinical expertise, and a vast network of like-minded professionals.
In an interview with YEN.com.gh, Dr. Sesah, who also served as the President of the Students' Representative Council (SRC) at KNUST in 2021, expressed that receiving the fellowship from such a respected association was a significant milestone in his career. He shared that this recognition would not only be a personal achievement but also a challenge and an inspiration for him and his colleagues in Ghana. He expressed hope that the recognition would motivate him to make meaningful contributions to his country and sub-region and inspire other optometrists in Ghana to elevate the standard of service delivery.
Dr. Sesah's achievement comes shortly after another success by a former KNUST student. George Fordjour, an alumnus of KNUST, made Ghana proud by winning the top prize in the Student Poster Competition at Tennessee Technological University this year. These remarkable accomplishments highlight the growing recognition of Ghanaian professionals in the global academic and medical fields, further solidifying the country’s reputation for excellence in education and healthcare.
