JoSAA Counselling 2025: Key Dates and Eligibility Criteria Announced
IIT Jammu Introduces BTech in Engineering Physics, Expanding Academic Opportunities
Jun 02, 2025 |
The Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu (IIT Jammu) has introduced a new BTech programme in Engineering Physics, expanding its academic offerings to address the increasing demand for interdisciplinary expertise in technology. This programme is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in engineering principles and advanced physics, preparing them for careers in emerging fields such as quantum technology, semiconductor research, and renewable energy.
Admissions to the course, which offers 25 seats, will be conducted through the JoSAA counselling process based on JEE Advanced 2025 scores. The curriculum aims to deliver a well-rounded educational experience, covering key topics such as semiconductors, quantum sensors, quantum computing, batteries, and solar cells. Additionally, students will engage in theoretical, experimental, and computational coursework, including nano and micro-fabrication techniques as well as computational materials design.
Graduates of the programme are expected to develop expertise in semiconductor fabrication, VLSI chip design, photonic device development, quantum computing and communication, and quantum algorithm design. Furthermore, the programme will open doors to opportunities in academia, industry, and government research organisations. Meanwhile, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the 2025 counselling schedule for candidates who have cleared JEE Main 2025 or are set to clear JEE Advanced 2025.
Reports indicate that only candidates who pass JEE Main 2025 or JEE Advanced 2025 will be eligible for JoSAA counselling and seat allocation. The selection process will consist of five rounds, followed by a special final round for IITs and NIT+ institutes. Additionally, students qualifying the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) can choose architecture-specific options starting 8 June, following the announcement of AAT results. To assist candidates in making informed choices, JoSAA will release two mock seat allotments on 9 June and 11 June, based on preferences submitted by those dates. Final seat choices must be locked by 12 June, and the first round of seat allotment results will be declared on 14 June after verification and data reconciliation.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the results of JEE Advanced 2025 will be announced by IIT Kanpur on 2 June 2025 via the official website jeeadv.ac.in. Students seeking admission to architecture programmes must also qualify for the AAT to be eligible for those specific seats. With increasing flexibility in academic options, the launch of new programmes and updated admission procedures ensures greater opportunities for students pursuing higher education in engineering and technology.
Editor's Note:
The introduction of IIT Jammu’s BTech programme in Engineering Physics reflects the growing demand for interdisciplinary expertise in technology and science. By integrating principles of engineering with advanced physics, the course aims to equip students with specialised knowledge in fields such as quantum computing, semiconductor fabrication, and renewable energy. This expansion aligns with the evolving academic landscape, offering students greater flexibility and preparing them for emerging industries that require a deep understanding of both theoretical and applied sciences. Meanwhile, updates to the JoSAA counselling process demonstrate the ongoing efforts to refine admission procedures, ensuring that students have clearer pathways to secure their preferred academic choices. As institutions continue to innovate and diversify their programmes, such developments reinforce India's commitment to strengthening its higher education sector.
As per Skoobuzz, with increasing global competition and technological advancements, offering students access to specialised education remains critical in shaping the future of scientific research and innovation.
