MCC Opens Pathway for More Candidates with NEET PG 2024 Cut-Off Reduction

NEET PG 2024 Seat Allotment Process Begins, Reporting Deadline Set for January 25

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) announced that 24,314 seats will be filled in the third round of NEET PG 2024 counselling, including 15,902 from the virtual round, 8,313 from the clear vacancy round, and 999 newly added seats. Candidates had until January 16, to fill their preferences. The revised counselling schedule, due to a reduction in cut-off scores, aimed to allow more aspirants to participate and prevent vacant postgraduate seats in medical colleges.

The NEET PG 2024 seat allotment will take place from January 16 to January 17, with reporting and joining at allotted colleges from January 18 to January 25. The cut-off for general category candidates has been reduced to the 15th percentile, and to the 10th percentile for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. Those meeting the revised cut-offs are advised to complete the counselling process before the deadline. Last year, the NEET PG qualifying percentile was reduced to zero for all categories. In 2022, the general category cut-off was lowered from the 50th to the 35th percentile, the unreserved PwD cut-off from the 45th to 20th percentile, and for SC, ST, and OBC (including PwD) candidates, it was reduced from 40th to 20th percentile.

The revised NEET PG 2024 counselling process aims to accommodate a larger number of aspirants by lowering the cut-off scores and increasing available seats. The move ensures a fair opportunity for candidates across various categories while addressing the need to fill postgraduate medical seats.

Editor's Note:

The Medical Counselling Committee's revised NEET PG 2024 counselling process reflects a proactive approach to ensuring that postgraduate medical seats are filled efficiently. By lowering cut-off scores and increasing the number of available seats, the MCC has created a more inclusive pathway for candidates across various categories. This move is expected to benefit a wider pool of aspirants, providing them with the opportunity to pursue their medical careers without the fear of vacant seats.
