SBI PO 2025: Prelims in August; Admit Cards Expected in July

The Probationary Officer (PO) examination conducted by the State Bank of India (SBI) continues to be one of the most prestigious and fiercely contested recruitment processes within the Indian banking sector. With only 541 vacancies announced for the year 2025, the competition is expected to be intense. Notably, a record-breaking 8,29,325 candidates have registered for the preliminary examination, reflecting the immense popularity and aspirational value associated with the role. The online preliminary examination is tentatively scheduled to take place on 2nd, 4th, and 5th August 2025, marking the first critical phase in a comprehensive three-tier selection process. For lakhs of aspirants, this examination represents not merely a pathway to a stable and rewarding career but also a pivotal milestone in their professional journey.

In terms of logistics, the admit cards for the preliminary examination are expected to be released in the third or fourth week of July via the official SBI careers portal (sbi.co.in/web/careers). The recruitment process comprises three distinct stages: the preliminary examination, the main examination, and a psychometric test, followed by an interview and group exercises. It is important to note that the preliminary exam serves solely as a qualifying round for the main examination.

The prelims will carry a total of 100 marks, divided across three objective sections—English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability—each governed by a separate time limit. According to the official schedule, the results of the preliminary examination are likely to be announced between August and September. SBI has confirmed that the starting basic pay for the PO post is Rs 27,620, which includes four advance increments. This falls within the pay scale of Rs 23,700-980/7-30560-1145/2-32850-1310/7-42020, applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I.

In addition to the basic pay, officers will be entitled to a range of allowances and benefits, including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) or Lease Rental, City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), medical facilities, and other perquisites, following prevailing rules. The total annual compensation is estimated to range between Rs 7.55 lakh and Rs 12.93 lakh, depending on the place of posting and other relevant factors.

Candidates who have registered for the SBI PO recruitment process are strongly advised to visit the official SBI careers portal regularly for updates regarding the release of admit cards, allocation of examination centres, and detailed examination guidelines. The SBI PO examination remains a defining opportunity for aspirants seeking a distinguished career in banking, and thorough preparation will be key to success in this highly competitive endeavour.
