Christian Higher Education Leaders Discuss Future of Education at AIACHE Conference

Founded in 1967, the All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE) represents over 500 Christian institutions in India. It promotes quality education, character development, and values, aiming to create intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed, and spiritually inspired citizens. AIACHE partners with government and other organizations to advance justice, peace, and sustainable development, while supporting the growth and relevance of member colleges in Indian higher education. It also fosters unity and cooperation among different Churches.
Recently, AIACHE hosted its Triennial Conference 2024 from December 27-29 at XIM University, Bhubaneswar, with over 180 administrators and principals from Christian colleges across India in attendance. The conference, which focused on the theme "Envisioning Christian Higher Education for the Coming Decades," addressed important topics such as Digitalization, Artificial Intelligence, and the impact of Privatization on education. Dr Sasmit Patra, a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), attended the event as the Guest of Honor. He emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of higher education in India. Dr. Patra also shared his connection to XIM University, reflecting on how his experiences at XIMB had shaped his career and highlighting the significance of quality education.
The conference featured distinguished speakers, including the Vice-Chancellors of prominent Christian institutions, such as Rev. Fr. Dr. Felix Raj SJ from St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, and Rev. Fr. Dr. Antony R. Uvari from XIM University, Bhubaneswar. Additionally, the General Secretary of AIACHE, Rev. Fr. Dr. Xavier Vedam SJ, presented the association’s three-year report, underscoring AIACHE’s dedication to promoting value-based, inclusive, and innovative education.
The Triennial Conference marked a significant moment for Christian higher education in India. By addressing crucial topics like digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the impact of privatization, the conference provided a platform for informed discussions that will shape the future of education in India.
